Sign the petition: Make corporations disclose political spending

Citizens United is "united," but not in the interests of the citizens: We, the People. Stop letting the conservative RIGHT WING control our country just because they have more money. Our checks-n-balances have been UNBALANCED by the allowance of special interest groups to lobby AND contribute financial support behind a shroud of secrecy! Please sign this petition and help to protect our elections from unscrupulous special interests that OPPOSE the interests of We, the People! (njb)

The Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling opened the floodgate to corporate money in our political campaigns, but the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) can pull back the curtain and unveil the shroud of secrecy.
As the federal agency with the job of protecting investors from corporate abuse, the SEC is well within its authority to require that all publicly traded corporations disclose how they're spending money in elections. But it won’t happen without a fight.
Join Daily Kos and People For the American Way in urging that the SEC require publicly traded corporations to disclose how they spend their money in politics.

Stop Sexual Abuse Against Our Troops, from Among Our Troops!

Women who serve in the armed forces for the United States are being sexually assaulted by men in the military in alarmingly high numbers! (An estimated 26,000 a year: 71 per day on average). The TRUE numbers will never be known since it is a FACT that women are often too embarrassed to come forward.

We train all of our military personnel to defend themselves from the "enemy," what about from those who SERVE side-by-side with them? Why should they have to defend themselves from OUR troops? Why are there NOT enough consequences for such conduct that would discourage such widespread abuse? We cannot ASK THEM or EXPECT THEM to put up with this abuse while putting their lives on the line to protect us! (njb)

The Department of Defense (DoD) estimates a shocking 26,000 instances of rape, sexual assault and unwanted sexual contact occurred in our military – last year alone. That's an average of 71 cases every day.

In a recent Pentagon survey, roughly one in five military women said they were victims of unwanted sexual contact – but the vast majority of cases went unreported.
Victims have spoken out time and again for changing the system that wronged them. Congress must act immediately.

The Military Justice Improvement Act – which would transfer the decision to prosecute from a chain of command that has failed victims far too often to independent, impartial military prosecutors – could receive a vote in the Senate within days.

Help us fight for justice for our military members: they deserve a justice system worthy of their service. With the Senate poised to vote, we need your voice right now.

Add your name in support of the Military Justice Improvement Act. We owe it to the men and women who wear the uniform and bravely serve our great country.

MoveOn.Org PETITION to charge GOP with SEDITION

Arrest and Try House GOP Leadership for Sedition

By Marc Belisle (Contact)
To be delivered to: The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama
PETITION STATEMENT
I call on the Justice Department of the United States of America to arrest Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Speaker of the House John Boehner, and other decision-making House Republican leaders for the crime of seditious conspiracy against the United States of America.

USE THIS LINK TO GET TO THE PETITION & SIGN

Petition Background

The House GOP leadership's use of the Hastert Rule and H. Res 368 to shut down the government and threaten the U.S. economy with default is an attempt to extort the United States government into altering or abolishing the Affordable Care Act, and thus, is self-evidently a seditious conspiracy. Arrest the perpetrators in Congress immediately and bring them to justice.

IMPORTANT NEW CHANGE.ORG INFORMATION

REPOST FROM EMAIL 10 16 2013
Rashad Robinson, ColorOfChange.org
To NANCY BELL
Dear NANCY,
Earlier this afternoon the Senate reached a deal to end the government shutdown, reopen the government, and raise the debt ceiling.1 In order for this proposal to be signed into effect by the president, it must first be voted on in the House of Representatives. With the far right in the House holding our government hostage for more than two weeks, our representatives in Congress need to hear from us now before tonight's vote.
Try out the new ColorOfChange Friends & Family tool which helps you connect your Facebook friends to their Representatives in Washington. http://act.colorofchange.org/go/3033?t=2&akid=3164.1028577.9ItVjh
Thanks,

Congress must raise the debt ceiling, reopen the government and pass a budget that works for all of us.

Dear NANCY,
As the extreme right wing continues its more than two-week shutdown of the government, crucial business, veterans, health and education services remain shuttered, and hundreds of thousands of workers languish without pay.1 We're feeling the short-term effects all around us now in the form of job furloughs, closed parks and delayed government assistance, but the long-term impacts of continued government paralysis will be far more devastating.2
As public outrage grows, moderate Republicans are distancing themselves from the Tea Party hardliners' irresponsible and overblown demands.3,4,5 We have the opportunity to end this gridlock now — and it's our communities that are suffering the most the longer Congress delays.6 That's why we've launched ColorOfChange's Friends and Family tool. It uses your existing Facebook account to connect to the people you care about and provides a quick and easy way to call on our representatives to act.
Tea Party conservatives engineered the current shutdown/default crisis with a dual purpose in mind — to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and defund the social safety net. Ensuring deep cuts to earned benefits like Social Security and veterans assistance, and slashing access to food for hungry families, have long been key parts of their destructive agenda.7,8,9 Without real engagement with the critical budget and debt issues now before it, Congress is allowing a small group of far-right ideologues to foreclose our chance at a real, lasting economic recovery.
The government shutdown has decimated services critical to struggling communities that — still reeling from harsh, across-the-board sequester cuts imposed earlier this year — simply cannot afford to wait for the situation to get worse.10 We need a functioning government that protects the social safety net. In order to achieve that, Congress needs to end this shutdown, raise the debt ceiling, and pass a budget to fund the agencies, programs and services we all rely on.
Thanks and Peace,
